How would I solar power an electric bike?

How would I solar power an electric bike's battery?

here's the bike:

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=8467096

here's some solar panels:

http://www.solarhome.org/solarpanelscenter.html

the bike's battery is like 450 watts or something like that. so if i just bought a smaller solar panel, would it be able to charge the battery after a few hours or would it only be able to charge it for the watt amount the solar panel is? i want the solar panel to be attatched to the bike so it can even be charged while using it.
also what kind of wires and stuff would i need to do that.
bill if i have a list of instructions it wouldnt be hard for me.

You have your units confused. A battery is rated in watt-hours, not watts. The one listed is "24V/10AH pack" which means it is a 24 volt battery rated at about 240 watt hours

So if you have a 20 watt solar panel and a 240 watt-hour battery, it would charge the battery in 240/20 = 12 hours. That's under ideal conditions, bright sunlight on the panel.

But there are lots of other factors to consider. Since your battery is 24 volt, you have to find a solar array that can put out 24 volts or higher. You will need a charge controller that will work with that array and with your battery set to control the charge into the battery.

Note that solar arrays put out little or zero voltage when not in direct sunlight. Also if even one part of the panel is in shade, the output will be zero.

Your comment about kinds of wires indicates you need a lot more knowledge before you tackle this.

How much do solar panels cost?

I'm doing a science fair project. I need to know how much a complete solar home would cost (switching from electricity to solar panels). My school is 215,000 sq. ft and our school annually uses 3,525,669 KWh. Where can i find how much that would cost? I've gone to several websites such as BP and i cannot find the answer. please help!
complete solar school***
the roof is flat btw

Has anyone installed solar panels to their home? How well and cost effective is it?

Solar Panels, cost associated with it. return on investment. battery bank.

There are several types, some for electric power and some for hot water.

ROI is most dependent on your location and the positioning of the panels (the amount of ambient sunlight per year).

Why aren't more new homes built with Solar Panels?

It would be a gret way to reduce our needs for fossil fuels, but we don't seem to be taking advantage of solar technology. Why not?

Some countries are doing this now but in the US where home prices are at a premium most home buyers would rather have another bedroom or bathroom than solar panels.

The incentives aren't really the great. 30% rebate on a $40,000 system still comes to $28,000.

The electric companies don't actually "buy back" the excess power you make, they store it for you so you can use it at night or cloudy days. Anything you don't use is free power for your electric company to sell to someone else. You can't build your own solar elecrticity farm and make money.

How expensive is it to install solar panels on a home and what is the ROI timeline?

Average cost for 3 or 4 panels including installation? Amount of electricity in $$$'s it would save? Is it really worth it?

My system produces 5Kw whenever the Sun shines. It is built on towers and tracks the Sun through the day. This is the most efficient system. Roof mount are fixed and produce only a fraction of the energy I get.
ROI for me will be 10 years unless electric rates go up.
My electric bill has gone from $450.00 per month to $10.00 per month.
Cost of system? $70,000.00.
Bottom line? Green is keen but it ain't cheap!

Why are Americans brainwashed into thinking solar power and any alternative to oil is a bad, bad thing?

I read things like (concerning Solar power), huge cost,, doesn't work when sun not shining, need batteries (complicated set up) Gee - did the oil companies tell you that? Hooey - I don't believe any of it. If the America people demand a product is becomes cheaper and easy to install, etc. Aka: Free Market

The thing is the oil compagnies don't want to lose money so they brainwash people into thinking the alternative isn't any good.
Meanwhile the others are powerless.
(The Oil compagnies are more powerful than the latter)
